Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary


Set amidst the charming backgrounds of the soaring Western Ghat Mountains on the Mysore-Ooty highway in Indian state of Karnataka, the Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary is regarded as one of the most beautiful and well-managed national parks of India. This famous national park is at the distance of about 80 km from Mysore (the City of Palaces in Karnataka) and 215 km from Bangalore (the capital city of Karnataka). Bandipur National Park is also an important Project Tiger reserve and has been one of the most sought after destinations for wildlife tourism in India.

Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary or National Park has diverse species of rich flora and fauna. There are many species of valuable timber trees in this sanctuary such as Teak, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Kino Tree, Bamboo, etc. The park also consists of several species of flowering and fruiting trees such as Kadam Tree, Gooseberry, Crape-myrtle, Axlewood, Black Myrobalan, Golden Shower Tree, Satinwood, Black Cutch, Indigoberry, etc.

Major fauna species found in this park include elephants, tigers, sloth bear, wild dogs, leopards, chevrotain, gaur, sambar, deer, chitals, wild boar, barking deer, four-horned antelopes, langur, Muntjac, panther, crocodiles, mouse deer, python, osprey, and various species of birds. There is a large population of Indian Elephants in BNP. Robbins, jungle fowl, tits, bulbils, partridge warbles, peacocks, pigeons etc are major attractions of avifaunal species. You will truly enjoy amazing wildlife viewing and birding at this famous wildlife sanctuary and national park. Travelers can easily reach to BNP from Mysore and Bangalore.
